Product Details

Twins Arthur and Rose can’t wait to go back to Roar. In this story it is the old camp bed in grandad's attic that acts and the magical barrier to another world. Roar is a land of dragons, mermaids, unicorns, ninja wizards and where anything they can imagine can be real.

But when they return there’s no time for exploring, because a message arrives from their scarecrow enemy, Crowky.

This is longer than the other books in this section (p280). Author Jenny McLachlan has mastered the art of drawing you to the action and conjuring up a new imagined world, but manages to do it with less descriptive language and less words than some middle-grade authors. Yet, it has all the elements that the very best fantasy stories have. Fantasy when done well is a gateway to adventure and imagined worlds which rewards the reader many times, so they are going to want to read more. Ben Mantle has an outstanding reputation in illustrating children's picture books, his black and white pictures bring this story to life a winning combination.

Highly recommend for 8 to 12 years.

This title is also available in my 4 for £22 chapter book deal.

Book two the Return to Roar is also available.
