A delightful diverse picture book. That would be a perfect read aloud to share any time of year but especially in spring-time as part of science topics on seasons or growing plants in KS1 and EYFS. But, older children will love it too and has plenty appeal across primary, so would make a great assembly book for a school trying to inspire local environmental action among it’s children and community.

Its’ a heartwarming, hopefully story that intertwines many different strands.

“It all started when Omar brought a small slice of his mum’s special honey cake for show and tell.”

When Omar shares his honey cake, this prompts him to share how his grandad used to keep bees. What’s wonderful about this story is that his teachers listens to this and uses Omars experience as a prompt to some creative class activities related to bees. Then when the children decide they need more flowers their teacher helps them put they ideas into action. They orders seeds and put them in every door of the street the school is one, to create a bee corridor between the park and school.
